Atlantic A/Ws Flt No RC
410 holding over Moray Coast.
Can anyone throw any light on the reason for Atlantic Airways flight No. RC
410 was orbiting off the Moray Coast before landing at Aberdeen just now (1315hrs local 2nd Jan)? (aircraft RJ
The aircraft was seen on Flightradar24 in an orbit off the the Moray coast for around 30 minutes at about 5500ft, before landing at Aberdeen.
It appears the flight is scheduled from the Faroe Islands to Stansted via Aberdeen.
Anyone know the reason for the holding pattern over the Moray Coast and delayed arrival at Aberdeen?
Funnily enough, I was listening to the airport traffic yesterday, something I don't do often these days. But I was only monitoring TWR 118.1, & I did hear the flight land & depart later - saw it on climb out in fact. However, I was not aware of any fire vehicles awaiting its arrival. Weather conditions were OK
here yesterday. In other words, dunno!!
Thanks for the reply.
I posted the same question on another forum and had a reply to the effect, no emergency, the aircraft had too much fuel on board.
I find that a little unlikely, though not impossible; a scheduled flight Faroe Islands to Stansted via Aberdeen departed with so much fuel onboard it is above max landing weight and needs to hold for more than 30 mins to burn fuel before landing at Aberdeen(?).
A friend and I 'saw' the Flightradar24 in realtime. It didn't appear to be an emergency. The holding was (7 or 8?) right hand orbits on the en-route track, offshore and north east of Lossiemouth, then continued for a straight in approach at Aberdeen.
Curious, because during initial our discussions showed Stansted arrivals website information with a time as if it were a direct flight (i.e. not via Aberdeen). In the eventuality the flight was delayed into Aberdeen and 2 hours late at Stansted. Maybe confusion about whether the bank holiday flight was direct or not was a factor.
Either way I suspect there will be a meeting without coffee sometime soon!
Incidentally, my friend is in deepest Aberdeenshire (I am %u2018down the road%u2019 south of the border), can you let us know the Scottish ATC Moray sector freqs (lower and upper) and any other appropriate VHF and UHF freqs for the Aberdeenshire / Moray areas.
