perhaps i should be more clearer. remember the days when there was a lot of muck comeing out of planes as they took off and landed.
my personalfavourite for dirty plane of the 60s has to be the convair coronado cv990/880. this particular aircraft (swissair ) was so bad that on any aircraft landing yu think it was on fire !
How times have changed with cleaner fuels and the clean air act..of the 70s.. I was always wondered what happened to this aircraft . know that there was that many made and two airlines (outside usa) had the majority. includeing cathy pacific CV880 and Swissair CV990 and several IT
airlines in the 60s and 70s had them. Does anyone know where they went after swissair and Cathy sold themoff. did they go to south america? (i believe one brasilian airline had them also. )... or was it a simple thing of "to the crusher". Are there any of these still in existence ? not flying but in a museum (transport/aviation).
You're right, planes DID chuck out some crap in the '60s/'70s.But,until recently,i remember going to Mildenhall & watching C135's using the full runway length & chucking out enormous amounts of black smoke!Mind you,i'm talking about the late '80s early '90s,so perhaps they're cleaner by now.RB
