Usual whingeing about how it's all
BA's fault. Virgin have decided to can Little Red as they can't sustain the losses the service makes. The slots will now revert to British Airways as
VS haven't managed to operate them for the required three years.
I never understood why
VS went with Aer Lingus for a start.
Surely a deal with Fly
BE would have been more suitable, using Embraer 190s. Lower fuel costs, cheaper
UK-based crew and the benefit of all the lower charges the smaller plane would bring. The A320 was too big for the route, even
BMI used to use the A319 or the ERJ145 at times.
I'm not sure who tendered for the contract originally, but Flybe recently put in a tender for the Little Red contract using EMB 190s - I'm assuming this wasn't cheap enough for
VS hence the route getting axed.
Quoting whitehatter, from a previous postcheaper UK-based crew
Majority of the current Little Red crew are
UK based anyway. Cabin crew are agency staff and based at
ABZ,
EDI,
LHR and
MAN. Flight deck are predominantly either
LHR and
LGW based Aer Lingus crew.
