A big blow announced today with FR
saying routes to Budapest, Faro, Paris, Friedrichshafen, Gdansk, Lodz, Salzburg, Santiago, Szczecin and Valencia being dropped for the summer with 1 aircraft being displaced. Apparently this equates to 200,000 fewer passengers with 50 people losing thier jobs. They blames increased Air Passenger Duty and falling sterling exchange rates for a "collapse" in traffic, and have warned that more cuts may be announced for the winter schedule.
Which again brings us to the question as to whether FR
's policy of buying the 738 was sensible.
Southwest and Easyjet both operate the 737-700 which has a lower seat count. Is the 738 maybe a touch too large for their market?
I am not surprised they are trimming LPL
a bit as they will also be seeing that downturn like everywhere else. People just ain't flying in the same numbers.
